TOMAHAWKS OF THE AMERICAN FRONTIER. 14.5" haft with carved and pierced design, 8.5" cast brass head, 2" cutting edge, engraved turtle on one side of head and "whirling log" emblem representing humanity in center. Pictured on page 83, color plate 163 of John Baldwin's 1995 text "Tomahawks, Pipe Axes, of the American Frontier. In book there is beaded panel wrapped around the tacked red cloth panel near head, now missing. CONDITION: good very good overall, head shows casting flaws and light scratching, haft fits well. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (02-18499/JS). $800-1,200.
